East
and West Boldon, together with Boldon Colliery are three linking
villages more commonly known as " The Boldons ". Bordered by South
Shields and the City of Sunderland the former Boldon Urban District
Council within County Durham has been part of South Tyneside Council
administration since 1974.
Nearby is "Boldon Flats", on Moor Lane, East Boldon. This area which is flooded from October to March is a major attraction for birds which put on a spectacular display.
The pupils of Boldon Comprehensive School are shortly moving into a new multi-million pound building in late 2006. When the old building is demolished it is understood that a housing development will be built on the site.
Many new housing developments have appeared within the “Boldons” in the last 10 years.

The A184 runs through the centre of East and West Boldon and as of late is subject to much criticism due to the volume of traffic on it.
Despite this, the strategically position of "The Boldons" makes it a much sought after area to live.
The Colliery , a former mining
village ( Boldon Colliery closed in 1983) has seen a great many
changes, especially through the Boldon Business Park development. The
Business Park, on the fringes of West Boldon and Boldon Colliery has
brought many jobs to the area as well as shopping and leisure
facilities such as the multiplex cinema and shopping hypermarket.
