Minutes of Meeting held on Thursday 19th November 2009 at the Wheatsheaf Hotel

Present: The names of those present along with those who gave apologies are recorded in the Attendance Register.

1.                 Chairman's welcome: Mrs Commie Baker opened the meeting and introduced the Guest Speaker, Sue Jackson, who is the Chairperson of South Tyneside Neighbourhood Watch.

2          Neighbourhood Watch

Sue explained that the NHW Scheme is 26 years old and far removed from the old view that it is only for -curtain twitchers-. It aims to promote community spirit, improve quality of life, and to be part of a crime prevention initiative.

The Police will respond appropriately to reports of incidents, and have a duty to call upon individuals or their representatives. However, they rely on the public to inform them of anything suspicious, bogus callers, or rogue traders.

As a result of NHW initiatives South Tyneside is top of the list for Police results.  Members of an active NHW may qualify for a discount on home insurance.  Closed Circuit cameras are available for loan to groups where a continuing problem exists.

3.         Carols around the Tree.

It was pointed out that there is a Sunderlandhome match on the evening of the 15th December.  The Chairman will mention this to Inspector Hudson to alert the duty officers about the extra traffic at the start of the festival.

3.         West Boldon in Bloom.

It was agreed that we should enter, and Sue Jackson has offered to assist, and to include Hamilton Terrace in our bid.

Agreed to ask George Dunn to be the Guest Speaker at our January Meeting.

4.         Any Other Business.

a)         Vodaphone has lodged an appeal against the refusal of planning permission for a mast at the end of Grampion Grove.  Agreed the Association should oppose the appeal.

b)         West Pastures: there appears to be many caravans on the travellers' site.  Agreed that the Chairman will ask the Enforcement Team to check whether they are within the permitted limit.

c)         Date of Next Meeting - 14th January 2010 at 1 30 pm at St Nicholas Church Hall.

C Baker

Chairman
