Known
locally as the Hidden Nursery or Secret Garden. Set next door to the
Red Lion and hidden behind Wrightway Car Parts (The West Boldon Garage)
on the A184 in the heart of the village. Probably the largest range of
plants in the area supported by professional gardening advice. Ran by
award winning garden designers.
A large range of stone / concrete ornaments are held in stock. Website address is www.tubsandshrubs.co.uk for up to date information on all your garden care.
The key to good gardening is placing the plant in the position that serves the plants needs.
Plants will only do well if you can give it the conditions to grow in that it would choose for itself.
If you are determined to have the plant, but do not have the right soil, grow them in pots.
Consider the final size of the plant and give it the correct space.
When playing with colour it is worth noting that colours that clash next to each other can be broken by using foliage plants between them.
Shape and form are just as important as colour when you are trying to get plants to set each other off. The mixture of contrasting shapes together with height and scale will sustain an interest in the garden.
Winter Displays
The display of evergreen foliage is the main attraction of a winter display.
Mahonia has perfect form, is craggily handsome , evergreen and uncompromising, it never falters. These, with Helleborus which can sometimes flower for christmas make a wonderful combination that brighten up a winters day.
Many plants can easily grow beneath the Mahonia. The Mahonia itself will cope in a part shaded area.
Nov/December is when the Nursery has available hand picked hollies, some variegated, many in berry.
The telephone number for the nursery is (0191)519 3363
