The controversial building operated by Tedco (The Tyneside Economic
Development Company) scooped a top design award in the 2007 Hadrian
Awards scheme.
Chief executive of Tedco"Doug Scott" said that the building was designed so that it would be a landmark for South Tyneside at an important gateway to the borough.
"We're delighted that it has been recognised by the Hadrian Awards judges."
The building is known locally by many differant names, many of them not complementary.
The cedar clad cubes have certainly created many a discussion. What do you think? Is it a wonderful piece of architecture that deserves to win an award or is it an eyesore that should never have been built.
This photograph was taken on New Years Day 2010 - which was one of the worst winters we have had in Boldon for many years.
